News from your Leading Autodesk Systems Integrator

John Sayre, Technical Marketing Manager for Autodesk, and Eric Chappell, Civil Community Evangelist for Autodesk, put together this great video that explains the way to use the Autodesk Shared Reference Point productivity pack tool to seamlessly share a file between Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, and Infraworks so that the content of the files locates itself on the site correctly.  I highly recommend watching this video:

Using iLogic Design Copy is a great way to copy an assembly that is set up to drive parts from an assembly by using iLogic code.  The process to do this is fairly simple.     Make sure no files are open in Inventor.  The command will not exist in the TOOLS tab if you have any file open.   Once the Dialog Box is open, you can select the assembly you wish to copy.   All of the children of the assembly will be automatically selected. If you need this assembly design copied to a new project, you can enter that information in this dialog box.  It will automatically create the project name based on the location you store it in.  You can BROWSE or type in a path.  Also, notice that you can change the filenames of the parts with either a prefix or suffix.  Keep in mind that you will need to update any ...

Applied Software® announced today that its proposal to custom-develop an add-on for BIM 360 DocsTM was selected by Autodesk as part of a recent "BIM 360 TechBox" competition. The Autodesk® program tasked Autodesk partners with building tools on the BIM 360 platform that solve business challenges specific to the construction industry. Only two proposed solutions were chosen.    The new Applied Software tool, "360Sync for BIM 360 Docs," is anticipated to be available in May and will synchronize files to/from local servers/computers with Autodesk's BIM 360 Docs.    "Construction projects require an enormous amount of document and file management," said Applied Software President Richard Burroughs. "While cloud-based services such as BIM 360 Docs have emerged as a great way to make these documents available on-demand, there is a challenge in how to keep the files hosted on these services up-to-date with the latest available version. 360Sync for BIM 360 Docs will simplify this issue, making it much easier to create and maintain a 'single version of the truth.'"   With 360Sync for BIM 360 Docs, users can simply leverage what they're already doing and push ...

We recently had a pickle of a support issue that I felt needed to be shared with everyone.  Upon the time Autodesk announced that they were no longer going to be selling perpetual licenses we had many people run out and purchase some for future use.  We had a company purchase several licenses of AutoCAD for Mac.  Recently, they decided to install the software on a system, but they wanted to know if it was possible to install it on a PC instead.  According to this document, Windows and Mac Cross-Platform Licensing for AutoCAD, it’s possible: The problem we had was that we attempted several installs using the correct serial number and the product key for the PC.  It appeared as though the software was treating the activation as a term license though and wanted the user to login.  But that was not correct.  It should have worked.  Well, after some back and forth with Autodesk and our support team we were at our wits end.  Then someone decided to just attempt to install it on the PC with the ...

You've gone through the procedure of creating an Infraworks model and you'd like to have the model appear in another group.  Well, you cannot have a model appear in two groups.  That's simply not possible.  So how do you move the model from one group to another?  Well, that's not possible either.  So here is the workaround. . .  1. Open the model.   2. Within "Settings and Utilities" navigate to the "Duplicate" button: 3. In the newly duplicated model, click on the "Publish" button: 4. In the "Publish Model" dialog box select the group you want to add the model to:

The most basic of all visualization mediums is a simple rendering. While you can certainly generate very powerful and compelling still images in Revit with no additional software necessary, bringing your model into a more powerful rendering environment such as 3ds Max can provide you with additional capabilities to further enhance your image. 3ds Max includes a variety of rendering engines, each with it's own unique capabilities. The ART (Advanced Ray Trace) renderer is more or less the same that is found in Revit 2017, however the NVIDIA mental ray renderer brings additional capabilities that are not found in Revit 2017, or even in the mental ray renderer found in Revit 2016 and earlier releases.  The mental ray engine provides more controls for global illumination (GI), which allows you to render interior scenes that utilize exterior a high amount of exterior lighting. Both images below rely heavily, if not entirely, on external lighting for an interior scene. However these kinds of scenes can be very challenging to render without the ability to use the Global Illumination settings which are not found ...

A new release to BIM360 Field is has been much anticipated and seems to solve a lot of problems people have had in the past with tracking different equipment types. See the release notes here.

(Part 2 ) In this part we will create the same surface from a civil 3D points file that was exported in the NEZ (Northing, Easting, Elevation) .txt format. This file will allow users to create a toposurface in Revit. The format is key as well, as is the file type you are importing. You can import this points file in either (.csv or .txt) file type formats. Keep in mind you will not see the imported points until you "Finish" the toposurface.  Following these simple practices will ensure your civil files are exactly what you need and will not break your projects. The civil CAD file needs to be in the following formats to work. (DWG, DXF, DGN) The civil points file needs to be in the following formats - (NEZ - Northing, Easting, Elevation) Import the CAD file into a basic template to test its usability and review stability / file size. Remove the CAD file after converting into a toposurface.  Clean up ...

In 2016 Autodesk released updates to Parameters in Revit. I created this video with basic examples of how you can use these types of parameters to your advantage. Use these basic examples and discuss and plan other usages to compliment your current in-house workflows. Keep in mind that over constraining a model can be detrimental or have a negative effect on your projects. Coordinate with everyone on the team or on the project how these work and when you should apply them to your projects. Parameters 2.0 - (part 1) Reporting parameters are values driven by dimensions or geometric conditions. (Part 2 coming soon):  Global parameters are specific to a single project file but are not assigned to categories like a project parameter.

Howdy Folks, Lately there seems to a lot of concern (and rightfully so) with upgrading projects from Revit 2016 to Revit 2017. First, let me begin by stating that it is NOT recommended to upgrade your project from one version to another. IF you started the project in Revit 2016, complete the project in the same version.  If you have to upgrade a project to a newer version here are a few hints and suggestions. ( REMEMBER CREATE A BACKUP OF YOUR PROJECT, just in case the upgrade doesn't work)   1. MAKE SURE you have installed the latest patches, updates, or service packs to Revit 2017. You will need to run Autodesk's shiny new application called " Autodesk Application Manager".  Below is a link to read all about it. https://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-result/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Autodesk-Application-Manager-FAQ.html 1. If you need to upgrade a Revit project more than 1 release, ie, Revit 2015 to Revit 2017, first upgrade the project one version at a time. In this example it would be release Revit 2016 (make sure to have audit checked on), then save that project and close it. Open it in ...

Hi Folks, I have been getting several calls from customers that are using Revit 2016/2017 and have a really nice high resolution screen on their PC and are experiencing issues with being able to read within their schedules. The text ends up being garbled and overlapping. The issue is the "newer" screens ( greater than (1920x1080) don't seem to work well in Revit when looking at things like schedules. In the Schedule view the text within the boxes overlaps and is unreadable. The only "fix" was to place the view on a sheet in order to clearly "read" all the text. Below is a link to an article on how to fix this. Please keep in mind, in my experience it takes a few tries on a PC to get the balance between changing the screen resolution and adjusting the size of text to be no larger than 100%. https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-architecture-forum/revit-2017-text-issues-finally-solved/td-p/6562507 Good luck, Rick Kremer Applied Software
