   When you  import an image to trace your building it works well.  However, when you add slabs to the building and then try to use the floor plan to create rooms on the first floor you will not be able to see the image.  Instead you will see a purple highlight of the slab like the image below:     To fix this problem take the following steps: 1) Click on the align to face button and click on any vertical surface of the building     2) Go to the all systems tab and select the image     3) Now select any point, as it will serve as a reference point to move upward from.  After you have selected a reference point move your mouse up vertically and enter “1”.  This will move the image up 1 foot allowing it to be seen in the interior view.  For this example the image was moved up to the second floor of the building which is a distance of 21 feet.   4) Now when you return to the interior system you will be able to see your floor plan. ...

 Tired of having to recreate an estimate when you want to update your conceptual estimate with new information?  Using the Destini Suite from Beck Technology you will be able to easily transition your conceptual estimate from Destini Profiler to Destini Estimator where you can update it with quantities from 2D drawings or 3D models.  To transfer the estimate follow the steps below. 1) Save your Profiler model   2) Click on the File Tab   3) Hover over the export button   4) A drop down will appear select Profiler Estimate   5) Save your estimate and give it the appropriate name   6) Open Destini Estimator and Select the estimate       7) Now your conceptual estimate is ready to be updated

There have been reports of Autodesk apps that are using the plug-in auto loader mechanism breaking after the install of AutoCAD 2017 Service Pack 1.  I know we've had at least one individual internally to our company have this issue, and it's been happening more and more.   The problem appears to only happen in vanilla AutoCAD and not in verticals like AutoCAD Architecture.  A workaround is to remove the SeriesMax entry from the PackageContents.xml. For example: xmlSeriesMax="R21.0". Or to change it to xmlSeriesMax="R21.1". QR Codes were first created to help in the manufacturing process. In 1994 Denso Wave, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation, created a Lean Manufacturing Process which is a systematic method for the elimination of waste within a manufacturing system. So by Definition QR Codes (Quick Response Code) are LEAN and quite versatile, they are able to store many different types of data like Contact information, URLs, Email Address, Geo Locations or just plain text. Using them for retrieving the information is quite easy and inexpensive too.  In the recent years more and more construction companies are utilizing that technology by embedding the QR Codes into blueprints or printing them into labels. This expands the amount of information available for the field beyond the constrains of a printed piece of paper. eVolve   A Co-Developer’s Perspective   So what is eVolve? eVolve is a solution for the electrical contractor/constructor who wants to fabricate from the model. It’s no great benefit just to model a coordination model for electrical and not build from it. The challenges were that even if we modeled using just Revit or AutoCAD MEP,  extracting the data to prefabricate from those models was tough. So first, we had to come up with a solution that worked for our team, and in order to do that we had to standardize the parts list as well as our process. Without these things in place it would fall apart. So that meant nailing down a brands list of our most used components, and starting there. Since eVolve was originally built just for Corbins Electric, that was the perspective. Second we needed to map out how best to deliver the deliverables downstream. We decided that ordering our parts before starting our Sheet sets or “spools” would allow us time to get our products in house at the same time or just before we would build them. ...

Quite an outrageous title huh? The SysQue approach is traditional .rfa and the Autodesk approach are .itm which was developed specifically for fabricators. This is not about which program is better, or whether .itm files being in Revit is an abomination to traditional Revit design. We all use the tools we are provided, at the end of the day we all just want to do our jobs the best we know how, get paid, go home and someday retire! So why should SysQue consumers want Fabrication .itm files to successfully be introduced to Revit? The simple concept of competition. Competition drives innovation, it drives price, and it drives failures. Project Sync is a functionality that is available in Vault Professional, and allows a company to easily share and synchronize specific data to project team members who reside outside of the network firewall of the hosted Vault.  When you subscribe to Vault Professional or if you already own it with a maintenance plan, one of the benefits is free access to Autodesk Buzzsaw.  Within Vault, Project Sync is used to configure which data is shared, and when synchronization occurs with your Buzzsaw site.  Users can access project data from local workstations, the cloud, and mobile devices. "Ok, so how do I get this cool functionality?", you ask.  Well, that's what this post is all about, so let's get started. This tutorial will cover how to utilize flex and conduit on a group. This is an approach that I have implemented at the workplace and it presents some creative work-arounds to the lack of content for MEP in Revit. This also is a means to consider when speeding up your modeling efforts. I believe you can use this method in numerous capacity no matter what your discipline.   For a base point I am starting with a family that is hosting 2 separate types of connectors. One of which is a "Conduit" connector as well as a "Piping" connector. This will allow for us to model flex from one end and conduit parts from the other. We are in fact building a transitional assembly.  I will begin in by making the flex fitting family. This is just a straight fitting for going from EMT to Steel flex.(FMC) very common in the electrical trade. We will just use a static part and model the geometry. You can R.E. one in house. You have created your project(s) and have been working for months or years in Plant 3D.  The IT director comes in and says, "We are going to Vault Professional!"  As a designer, you may be thinking sarcastically, "Oh great, something else to learn..." or you may be thinking, "We need something like this to help secure our projects and make horizontal workshare a real possibility!"  You would be right on both thoughts.  There are many advantages to making the move to Vault Professional in regards to AutoCAD Plant 3D, and we can help you explore those benefits.  But you more than likely will have several projects you are already working on that will need to be moved to this new Vault.  It is really an easy task and here are the steps.   In Plant 3D, open the project you want to convert.  Do not open any of the drawings.  From the command line, type in PLANTPROJECTTOVAULT.  You will see the following dialog box asking you to enter in Vault and SQL information.      After selecting "Start" you will see the following dialog ...

Ever get fed up with connector breakpoints and what each line actually controls? Check out the diagram below with an explanation of each rectangular break-point line, and what they are actually doing. The following setup is for a rectangular connector using the "Coupling Plate" end draw type.   Gasket- This value physically separates two connected items  Horizontal Inset- Will inset the connector on the horizontal plane by the value input here. If 4 is input, 2 from each side will be removed.   Length- Determines how far the connector extends back into or away from the duct. This value can also be used to simulate Slip Joints. A positive number input here will extend the connector away from the duct. A negative value will bring the connector into the duct. Thickness- This line can be used to raise the connector away from the duct body. This is useful when Shading or rendering to get proper separation between Duct and connector faces. I didn't realize I had ADD until we had kids in school. All three of our sons were diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder and I recognized the symptoms cited by their teachers and psychiatrists as ones I experienced myself at various times in my life. Sometimes I would choose to sit at the front of the class and engage the teacher with more questions than my peers, not to be a teacher's pet but just to stay awake. Another strategy would be to make the learning more concrete. As an architect I need to get a certain number of hours of continuing education each year. Some of that is mandated to be related to green building and some to accessibility. I would much rather go see a building under construction that incorporates energy efficiency than sit through a workshop on the same topic. My favorite accessibility class is one that I organized. The Vault Administrator is responsible for maintaining the health of the Vault.  The Vault's health is a crucial element to proper data management and happy, stress free, vault use.  Having said that, the Vault Administrator is usually being hammered from all sides doing many other functions and helping many people with their IT and design needs.  The best way to maintain the health of your vault is to automate those administrative tasks with batch file routines that are run on a scheduled basis using your windows task scheduler. The Connectivity.ADMSConsole.exe command can be used in conjunction with command line options to back up or restore a vault.  It can also Migrate data after installing a Hot Fix or an Update, Purge file versions, and Re-index File Properties (just to name a few).  The list of scripts for the Command Line Server Console can be found here. Using the Appearance Profiler in Navisworks with Fabrication CADmep to adhere to coordination.

Pattern, the term Inventor uses for duplicating geometry in sketches, features of parts, and parts in assemblies.  These Patterns can be rectangular, circular, reflective, and copy is a pattern in assemblies. The Circular Feature Pattern now has an Orientation toggle to add rotation to the feature if desired.  In the picture below, as we could always do, you see the Circular Pattern which rotated the feature as it goes around the base feature.  If we designed radial clock faces all day, then this is all we needed. Now, added in 2017, "It's about time", we have the Fixed toggle button that will maintain the Orientation of the feature as it is revolved. Let's take a closer look as well at the display of the feature being patterned.  Notice the green dot that is the current Base Point for the Orientation of the pattern. The Base Point can be moved to a different vertex, giving different results to the pattern. Picking different base points will give variations to the layout of the Circular Feature Pattern.
