I didn't realize I had ADD until we had kids in school. All three of our sons were diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder and I recognized the symptoms cited by their teachers and psychiatrists as ones I experienced myself at various times in my life. Sometimes I would choose to sit at the front of the class and engage the teacher with more questions than my peers, not to be a teacher's pet but just to stay awake. Another strategy would be to make the learning more concrete. As an architect I need to get a certain number of hours of continuing education each year. Some of that is mandated to be related to green building and some to accessibility. I would much rather go see a building under construction that incorporates energy efficiency than sit through a workshop on the same topic. My favorite accessibility class is one that I organized. We rented a half dozen wheelchairs and were given a tour of the nearby campus of St. Edward's University. Believe me, you learn a whole lot more about wheelchair accessibility ...

ATLANTA, July 12, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Applied Software®, a leading systems integrator in the AEC, construction and manufacturing industries, today unveiled eVolve™ Fabrication, a new fabrication software solution for electrical contractors. Developed by electrical contractors for contractors, eVolve reduces waste by facilitating detail-level as-built drawing production, and by automating shop drawing sheet set creation with linked bills of material using a single click – no extra effort. eVolve also makes Just-in-Time delivery a reality for both the shop and the field, virtually eliminating the need for pre-stocking inventory. "Most electrical contractors are on the lean journey for greater efficiency, but are struggling to see how requiring BIM adds value to their operations," said Richard Burroughs, president of Applied Software. "eVolve will allow our clients to fabricate faster at a lower rate and install faster, as well." "With eVolve Fabrication, we tracked and documented a reduction in rework from 50 percent down to 2 percent as we moved fabrication from the field into the pre-fabrication shop, where safety issues and installation inefficiencies were mitigated simply by fabricating in a fully ...

For Immediate Release: ATLANTA – July 08, 2016 – Applied Software®, a leading systems integrator in the AEC, construction and manufacturing industries, announced the retirement of Doug Wietbrock, director of fabrication at Applied Software. With over 30 years as an industry pioneer in the design automation industry and Autodesk channel, Doug’s innovation and guiding influence will be missed.   “This comes with mixed emotions. According to Warwick Ashford, Security Editor for ComputerWeekly.com, Ransomware makes up a quarter of UK cyber attacks. Just what is Ransomware?   It is malware used for the purpose of data kidnapping that the attacker encrypts and then holds hostage, demanding payment for the encryption key, often in the form of bitcoins. In short, your data is the hostage and you are forced to make the decision as to whether or not it’s worth the cost to retrieve it. Sounds like something out of a movie right? Well, it’s real and it is quickly becoming one of the biggest cyber crimes to date.   Fortunately, there are those who are fighting back, for example, TeslaDecoder takes advantage of a weakness in the encryption implementation of TeslaCrypt and creates a workaround that allows its victims to decode their files appended with different extensions. It is user-friendly and free to download.   For computers themselves, the first line of defense is to be careful not to open email messages or download attachments from strangers. Most instances of crypto-malware can be traced to spammed inboxes. Such ...

Spending the first half of the year soliciting feedback from our customers and speaking to construction project managers across the country at various conferences, I've come to the conclusion that BIM is positioned to make big strides through the end of the year and well into 2016. Construction companies that survived the recent economic downturn got lean and efficient through BIM. Now, they're looking at how BIM can save money across the board and also allow them to be more competitive. BIM certainly wasn't as important eight years ago. It was construed to be more of a 3D innovation than anything else. But in today's society of Big Data, BIM has advanced to the forefront of construction build-outs. Why? The "I" in BIM is the big deal now. From designers to owners, a heightened understanding of and appreciation for the value of data has emerged. And, that data - in terms of how it's updated, accessed and integrated within the BIM platform - is finally starting to be used by all the constituents involved with a construction project to address the ...

Construction managers commonly use BIM 360 Field to productively manage jobsites. The ability to seamlessly integrate a construction team’s daily workflow has quickly established BIM 360 Field as the industry gold standard for cloud-based, field management tools. Managing the flow of documents between Windows and BIM 360 Field, however, can be a time-consuming process. Now, with 360 Sync, document management is effortless. Applied Software developed 360 Sync to provide integration between Windows and BIM 360 Field. For example, 360 Sync allows you to house one file on your PC (with all of your construction documents) that automatically updates into BIM 360 Field. Once synced, all of your file structures will remain the same. 360 Sync is easy to use and requires only one initial set-up per project. Once the initial set-up is complete, the entire process becomes automated. When setting up projects, you can create templates for repeated use or you can create unlimited custom projects. You choose when to sync the files for each project including from which computer to which project. You can also set multiple computers to sync ...

Modern networking tools have changed the way managers approach construction projects. Online project management and communication tools make it easier to ensure everyone involved in a project—from architects and engineers to contractors and project owners—is on the same page.BIM is one tool that ensures everyone is working from a consistent source of information. It provides an intelligent, 3-D model based process that delivers insight for creating and managing projects faster, more economically and with less environmental impact. In addition to improving workflow, BIM techniques reduce the likelihood of error and faulty planning, especially as the number of stakeholders and complexity start to increase. Read More

I have been looking for the new items in Inventor Professional 2016 and found some really great enhancements!  These come from the "What's New in 2016" but if you don't have it loaded yet, you may not have seen these.  This is not all of the enhancements either, but these are the ones that made me want to check it out further.Copy Parameters to User ParametersWhile working with Parameters, you can now copy an existing parameter, including all its settings and multivalues, as a User Parameter. Previously, recreation and manual entry was required for each value.Import and Export External Rules Configuration for iLogic (not available in Inventor LT)You can now import/export iLogic configuration settings (as an XML file) to be shared between different users and machines. Once configured, externally mapped folders appear beneath a Standards Directory tree that will update/refresh immediately when content changes (sub folders and rules). In the past, external paths had to be manually added.External rules configuration settings can also be leveraged and mapped during creation of deployments.Global forms can now be refreshed through a right-click context ...

If you are not using ReCap to register, index and manipulate your point clouds and then dropping them in AutoCAD Plant 3D to do as-built designs, you are missing out! Come to Autodesk University in Las Vegas this year and attend my class on this very subject.PD6092 - Simplify As-Built Modifications in Plant 3D: Autodesk ReCap and AutoCAD Plant 3D - 12/3/14 (Wednesday) 4:30 PM  Scott Hallmark

While I have had good experiences over all with the Autodesk 2015 products, as with any software there were fixes along the way.  Here are my discoveries of some of those obscure and maybe not so obscure.          1)  AutoCAD 2015 Cursor trails:  Moving your cursor along would leave pixels everywhere.  Turning off Hardware Acceleration would clear up the problem.  Install the Service Pack and you can turn Hardware Acceleration back on.       2)      Plant 3D 2015 Extension 1: The Plant developers are not waiting on new releases to give more functions in P3D.  However, the Extension 1 was not compatible with AutoCAD Service Pack 2.  You cannot even install the SP2 for a particular vertical, such as AutoCAD MEP, without it affecting P3D.  But, there is a fix that fixes the fix that broke the Extension 1.  After installing any AutoCAD 2015 SP2, run the .BAT file.                   3)      AutoCAD Electrical 2015: The error could come with several messages.  The main one I have seen is:  Unhandled Exception C06D007E(Delayload “acewstr.dll” Module Not Found) at address FCFA940Dh.  ...

I have had many calls about this issue with Plant 3D 2014, so I thought I would go ahead and let everyone know the issue with creation of the Orthos folder when a Project Template is used.  This issue seems to only show up after installing the Extensions (Extension 1 & Extension 2 are available via your Subscription website).  The background: When creating a new Plant Project without a Project Template, all goes well.  But, as soon as you point to a Project Template, you discover that Ortho creation doesn't work.  Furthermore, in some cases, you get an endless loop of new drawings being created, affectionately referred to as being "spammed with new drawings".So what happened and what should have happened? To the left shows what will happen with the folder structure for Orthos, if the Project Template option is used and the standard setting for Orthos/DWGs is selected.  ...

As the title implies, there is a Service Pack 1 for Inventor 2014.  After installing SP1, over time I began to see a pattern of problems, particularly with Content Center, in that it would just stop working and would lock up the application.  Also, I found that if I renamed a file in a project, then launched Inventor, that new named file would have problems.  I guess I wasn't the only one, because Autodesk released an Update 2 to Service Pack 1.  Odd name, but basically a fix for what SP1 and Update 1 broke.  The Update 2 to Service Pack 1 includes Update 1 so you will only need SP1 and Update 2. The link below will take you to the Update.Update 2 to Service Pack 1

Nerd Cat says: Access the download for Plant 3D 2014 Extension 2 via your Subscription website.  Extension 1 will need to be installed first.  From my initial tests, this is a good release of an Extension in that I haven't found any bugs.

Really Nice blog. Keep it up Buddy

Major benefit of Major benefit of Proxy Server objects is that they are only loaded on demand at render time, just when they are absolutely needed for the render result. This can allow you to render much bigger scenes with the same amount of RAM on your PC

Hello,Your post has something new material, it is very knowledgeable and informative.Keep Posting.Thank you..MDF | Veneered MDF

Where do you download. I have seen videos, blogs and much more. But no one has a link to the plug-in. please help. Every thing I do at work revolves around point clouds. njrattien@gmail.com

Its really good to know about that some facts and other points given here are quite considerable and to the point as well would be better to look for more of these kind.Construction Service Management Software

Pretty interesting post! Thanks it was interesting. FSD

On the Plant Exchange, there is a new (sorta new anyway) Extension that has alot of promise for BOMs in Orthos and Center of Gravity calculations, as well as some Isometric improvements.http://autocad.autodesk.com/?nd=plant_homeHowever, upon installing, I started getting errors, crashes, problems problems problems with my Plant 3D.  I tried to uninstall the Extension, but ended up having to completely uninstall and reinstall the Plant 3D. So, at this time, I would not recommend installing the Extension.  Other links to reference on the Plant 3D Discussion board:http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-Plant-3D/Plant-3D-2014-regen-issue-when-changing-drawings/td-p/4354567http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-Plant-3D/Ortthographic-Views-not-loading/td-p/4354367http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-Plant-3D/Plant3d-2014-and-Extension-major-bugs/td-p/4356351http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-Plant-3D/Uninstalling-Plant-3D-2014-Extension-1/td-p/4351720http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-Plant-3D/Plant-3D-2014-Extension-1/td-p/4349963UPDATE:Here is what I have found with my reinstall of Ext 1 on a fresh install of Plant 3D.REGENALL must be performed on all Orthos and all Isos, what I mean is:  If i have multiple Orthos open, and toggle between them, I will need to REGENALL.  This will also happen if I have multiple Orthos and Isos open.  When I toggle from an Iso to an Ortho, I must REGENALL.If I have multiple ISOs open, similar to the Orthos, provided I am looking at the ISOs in model space.  Seem ok if I am ...
