Since 1988 Rabi Sidawi, AIA practiced architecture in Los Angeles, Honolulu and Atlanta. Rabi is a registered Architect and a senior AEC solutions consultant at Applied Software. In his current role, he provides AEC project planning/implementation, trains AEC professionals on (BIM) applications including Revit Architecture, Revit Structure, Navisworks, InfraWorks 360, A360 Collaboration for Revit, and Autodesk Sustainable Design Solutions. Autodesk recognized Rabi as having received the highest ratings from students for instructor performance. He was named (ATC) Instructor of the Year for 2007. In 2009 he received the North America award for distinguished performance in Revit Architecture. Currently, Rabi Sidawi holds an Adjunct Professor position in the Graduate Program in Construction Management at the New School of Architecture & Design, and at Stevens Institute of Technology.

Autodesk recently introduced some new functionality to Manage Revit Models in the Cloud, including BIM 360 Team 'Compare Versions'. These new workflows apply to Collaboration for Revit (C4R) as well as BIM 360 Team.  Check it out here:

Error installing Revit 2018 - A newer version of Dynamo Add-in for Revit or Dynamo Core is already installed   For those who have installed 2017 software latest updates, especially Dynamo Revit or Dynamo Studio, you may encounter the error listed above when trying to install Revit 2018. The solution is to keep clicking OK until it is done installing. Do not interrupt. It will eventually open up. After launching Revit 2018, check to see if you have the latest version of Dynamo Revit and Dynamo Studio.

In Revit 2017.1 and later versions, Autodesk introduced "Code checking for Steel Connections," according to AISC standards.  Note: Unless the Steel Connections add-in is installed, only a symbolic generic connection is available. Connection elements are not pre-loaded in templates. Detailed information about connections can include the following: Connection type Detailed geometry Analytical forces and data Materials Fabricator identification    Steel beams, columns, braces and concrete isolated foundations, beams, columns, slabs and walls are valid input elements for structural connections. The connection types that allow one concrete input element are the base plate connections: Base plate, Corner base plate, Base plate cut and Tube base plate. The concrete elements are not mandatory for the connection to work and can only be secondary input elements. Revit 2017 Combine Parameters in Schedules  You can combine parameters of the type(s) that display in that part of a schedule.  The values for the combined parameters will display in the same cell separated by a slash or other separator.  Note: Because combined parameters are not assigned to a category, they cannot be reused.  If you want to move the calculated value to a different cell, you must re-enter it.  1. Click Manage tabSettings PanelPanel Schedule Templates  Edit a Template.  2. In the Edit a Template dialog, select a template type and click Open.  3. Select a cell and click  Combine Parameters.  4. The AEC Industry is changing rapidly. Future Buildings will be assembled rather built. This Technology is important to find parts and assemblies within your BIM models.  Design Graph is a new way to explore your 3D data. Autodesk technology uses Shape-based Machine Learning to actually recognize and understand parts, assemblies and entire designs. The Design Graph learns to identify the relationships between all parts within and across all of your designs, irrespective of whether cross-references exist. It learns to interpret your designs in terms of those parts and it provides you a way to navigate your data using: simple text search, learned categories of parts, shape similarity, usage patterns and even smart filters for part numbers, materials and other properties.     Check it out at Autodesk Design Graph Try search for “wall”“basic”“rectangular”“mullion”“base”etc. All 3D models in your A360 Drive account are now available in the Design Graph. 

Published on Jun 30, 2016 From Apple to Mars Stefan is a Senior Executive Partner at Foster + Partners and head of Studio 4. He leads the practice’s research into sustainable design and the use of new materials and methods in construction, and established the Material Research Centre (MRC). He is also responsible for the Specialist Modelling Group (SMG), a multi-disciplinary research team who are experts in all aspects of environmental analysis, computational design, architecture for the senses, and digital fabrication.  He has worked on a number of projects that have pioneered new techniques for energy efficiency and resource management, including the Reichstag, New German Parliament in Berlin, the McLaren Technology Centre, London City Hall, the carbon-neutral settlement, Masdar City in Abu Dhabi, and his team is working on lunar and Mars projects. Currently he is involved in Apple’s new Headquarters in California. In addition to Revit family parameters, project parameters and shared parameters, Autodesk added Global Parameters as part of 2016 R2. Global Parameters are specific to a single project file, but are not assigned to categories. Global parameters can be simple values, values derived from equations, or values taken from the model using other global parameters. Use global parameters to drive and report values. A global parameter can assign the same value to multiple non-adjacent dimensions. You can also set the position of one element by the size of another element.
