5 Ways Revit Can Transform You into a Rock Star

If Mick Jagger were a Revit user, what would he sing about? Well, if he could work with new Revit 2020, it might be, “wild horses couldn’t drag me away.” Revit just keeps getting better and better. We caught up with Barbara Thompson, Applied Software Senior Specialist and software trainer in the Rocky Mountain office, to get her take on the highlights of the new Revit release. Here are the top features we can all sing about:

1. PDF into Revit – Finally! You can import pdf’s directly into this release and enjoy full BIM 360 support. Once you have imported the pdf, if it contains vector geometry, you can snap to geometry in the view. Access to BIM 360 with this release is as easy as clicking on the Revit home button to Publish Cloud Models. All of your team members can see the latest developments in the project thanks to the office’s Revit Rock Star – no, not Bruce Springsteen – YOU!
2. Material User – Many features of Revit have been enhanced to make your job more streamlined. One example is the material user interface, with easier access to libraries, a new class filter and larger thumbnails in the browser. Sometimes image is everything (just ask Gordon Sumner aka. Sting). With Revit 2020 you’ll discover that image support, integrated with BIM 360, is more easily managed. Master this, and people will be singing “everything little thing YOU do is magic.”
3. Ellipse Option – On the modeling front, elliptical walls and curtain walls are now available with the ellipse option in the wall command draw panel. The skill to create advanced wall types will set you apart on your design team and, like Eagles, you’ll “take it to the limit” on those design struggles you used to face.
4. Smart Path – It’s not The Cars, not The Police, but The Doors you’ve got to keep in mind. Check egress compliance on your project with the new design tool that recognizes obstacles to create a smart Path of Travel. Using this automated process, your team “won’t get fooled again.”
5. Homerun Wiring – Revit MEP users will appreciate the electrical homerun wiring enhancements and the new ability to generate CSV files from MEP fabrication models. This is an improvement that promises to rescue you from electrical circuit Dire Straits time after time.

There are plenty of new features in Revit 2020 to make you look like a rock star. You don’t have to be Don Henley or Donald Fagan to sing its praises. Go ahead, put on your “Moves Like Jagger,” access your Autodesk Account, and download the new version of Revit today.
