End of Activation for Autodesk Versions 2011-2014

As of July 1, 2022, Autodesk will no longer support perpetual license activation for its software versions 2011 to 2014. Autodesk has stated, “Our teams are best equipped to help customers on supported previous versions, and we are matching our practices to our policy.”
Autodesk provides support to users of all of its current versions. If you opt to contact Autodesk for support, the available general support services include product activation, technical support, software updates, and hotfixes.

Access is available to some previously released versions of Autodesk software as a benefit when the user subscribes to a current version or has an active maintenance plan. Eligible previous versions vary depending on whether you have a subscription or maintenance plan. In most cases, Autodesk will provide support for the three previous versions.

Three years ago, Autodesk announced its plan to end activation for outdated license versions. The phased approach instituted at that time was intended to provide users with well-defined support expectations. This is the last phase of that plan.
For the typical Autodesk software user, this end-of-activation announcement means:
- Users will no longer be able to obtain new activation codes for perpetual versions 2014 and earlier.
- Unsupported versions will not receive software updates or hotfixes.
- Previously installed and activated versions will continue to work.
You can continue to use a previously installed and activated version, even if that version has reached end of support. If you have a perpetual license for a version that has reached end of support, you still have rights to use the license for as long as you want. However, if you are using an unsupported previous version, you will not be able to receive a new activation code to reactivate it on any device, for instance in case of a hardware failure. In addition to the potential downtime this might cause, security issues may arise because you will not be receiving software updates or hotfixes.
If you activated a 2011-2014 license sometime in the past year, you will be notified by Autodesk about this end-of-activation in an email during the first two weeks of May 2022.
Although Autodesk acknowledged it has made exceptions in the past, it is tightening up its practices to align with its published policy.
If this end-of-activation affects you or your company, you can partner with the software specialists at Applied Software to prepare for the changes coming on July 1.
