Autodesk published its system requirements for Revit 2021 in April, 2020. Generative design and other critical features were added at that time.

for Autodesk Revit 2021 Products

Minimum – Entry-level configuration:

  • Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit Enterprise, or Pro
  • Single- or Multi-Core Intel®, Xeon®, or i-Series processor or AMD® equivalent with SSE2 technology
  • 8-16 GB RAM

Value – Balanced price and performance:

  • Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit Enterprise, or Pro
  • Multi-Core Intel Xeon, or i-Series processor or AMD equivalent with SSE2 technology
  • 16-32 GB RAM

Performance – Large, complex models:

  • Microsoft Windows 10 64-bit Enterprise, or Pro
  • Multi-Core Intel Xeon, or i-Series processor or AMD equivalent with SSE2 technology.
  • 32-64 GB RAM
  • 10,000+ RPM (for Point Cloud interactions) or Solid State Drive

BIM 360 Design Cloud Worksharing (in addition to the above)

  • Three times (3X) the total disk space consumed by equivalent RVT files for all cloud workshared projects accessed by the user
  • Internet connection able to deliver symmetrical 25 Mbps for each machine on burst transfers
  • VMware Horizon® 6.1 or later

Applied Software technical experts recommend that your system meets the ‘Performance’ requirements for large complex models, but Revit 2021 can suit a variety of configurations and needs. 

Revit 2021 Minimum Entry Level Configuration

CPU Type Single- or Multi-Core Intel®, Xeon®, or i-Series processor or AMD® equivalent with SSE2 technology. Highest affordable CPU speed rating recommended.

 Autodesk® Revit® software products use multiple cores for many tasks.

Memory 8 GB RAM

 – Usually sufficient for a typical editing session for a single model up to approximately 100 MB on disk. This estimate is based on internal testing and customer reports. Individual models will vary in their use of computer resources and performance characteristics.

– Models created in previous versions of Revit software products may require more available memory for the one-time upgrade process.
