The Next-Generation BIM 360

Prior to today (April 9, 2018), Autodesk offered a set of individual (classic) cloud products that were built to digitize and support specific project delivery phases and processes. There was only limited integration between these services – BIM 360 Team, BIM 360 Docs, BIM 360 Glue (now Coordinate), BIM 360 Field, BIM 360 Plan, BIM 360 Ops and Collaboration for Revit.

Effective today (April 9, 2018), the Autodesk cloud offerings are joining forces to become the next-generation of the BIM 360 platforms. These new platforms are BIM 360 Docs, BIM 360 Design, BIM 360 Glue and BIM 360 Build.

BIM 360 Docs

BIM 360 Docs is the core platform and is included in all other platforms.  The new BIM 360 Docs will consist of Document Management, Insight, Project Administration, and Account Administration.  BIM 360 Docs will be replacing BIM 360 Team, however, existing BIM 360 Team users will continue to have access to the existing BIM 360 Team projects in addition to the ability to create and access new projects created in Docs.  Therefore, no new seats of BIM 360 Team will be sold moving forward.  Instead, all new entitlements that would previously have been BIM 360 Team will now be BIM 360 Docs.  If new members need to be invited to an existing Team project, the project will need to be moved to the new Docs platform.

The new BIM 360 Docs platform is a combination of what was the existing BIM 360 Docs and the existing BIM 360 Team. Autodesk has attempted to merge the functionality of both platforms with as little as possible change in the user interface.

BIM 360 Design

BIM 360 Design is built on top of BIM 360 Docs, which means BIM 360 Docs is included.  Design is the replacement for what was A360 Collaboration for Revit.  BIM 360 Design is compatible with Revit 2018.3 and 2019.  The existing A360 Collaboration for Revit will not be compatible with Revit 2019.  The functionality of BIM 360 Design will essentially be the same as A360 Collaboration for Revit with added new features to provide more granular control of project member access.  Again, existing A360 Collaboration for Revit projects will not be visible in BIM 360 Design and new BIM 360 Design projects will not be visible in A360 Collaboration for Revit.

BIM 360 Glue

BIM 360 Glue also now includes BIM 360 Docs and will continue to function similarly to its current functionality.

BIM 360 Build

BIM 360 Build includes the product formally known as BIM 360 Field.  BIM 360 Build also includes BIM 360 Docs.  Like BIM 360 Glue, it will continue to function similarly to the current BIM 360 Field.
